Overview

One of the most important aspects of drilling wells in today’s oil industry is to control formation pressures. One indicator of this important aspect is the fact that regulatory bodies around the world require that specific personnel working in this industry either be trained in well control principles and procedures or be tested to prove their competence. It is without question that training plays an important part in successful well control.

IADC Well Control

Overview

The WellCAP program is based on the principle that proper training, emphasizing the knowledge and practical skills critical to successful well control, produces competent rig crews. This is the fundamental values held at all 3 IOTS training facilities in Calgary, Kelowna, Newfoundland. The purpose of the IADC WellCAP core curriculum is to identify a body of knowledge and a set of job skills which can be used to provide well control skills for drilling operations.

First Line Well Control

Overview

This selection of tutorials is designed to primarily prepare a student to challenge the First Line Supervisor Well Control exam which is a prerequisite for the Second Line Supervisor’s Well Control course.

Introduction to Well Control Blowout prevention equipment. Pressure concepts and dynamics. Causes and warning signs of kicks. Shut-in procedures Crew positions and duties during well control operations. Well Control procedures for circulating out influxes.

Fundamentals of Well Control

Overview

This course is designed for anyone involved or about to be involved in drilling and/or well control operations with Surface or Subsea BOP stack prior to them attending a Well Control course for the first time. Floorman, Derrickman, future AD etc. This course gives potential certification candidates an awareness of Well Control theory, practices and equipment in order to prepare them for the stringent requirements of well control certification testing.

These series of 2 day courses are to increase a student’s understanding of special well control considerations that are not covered in depth in other well control courses. These special courses are for anyone involved in drilling and/or well control operations in a supervisory and non-supervisory position with Surface or Subsea BOP stack.
