Workplace accidents and illnesses often result from workers not understanding the hazards associated with the products they are handling. WHMIS was developed to deal with this lack of information. It is a system for making sure that important information about hazardous materials is passed on to the people who handle those products.

Key Topics

This course covers the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).  This system is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. The main elements this course will cover are an introduction to and recognition of WHMIS controlled products, its labels, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and responsibilities, worker education, personal protective equipment (PPE), terms and regulations.
